著者は、最新のフラクタルや、べき分布といった経済物理学の知見と、認知心理学の学習理論を用い、いかに人間が自分たちの世界の根本的なことがらに対して無防備でいるかを説明している。

２ｃｈ、炎上といったサイバーカスケードが話題になるが、統計的な目で見ると世の中は予定調和的な正規分布をしていない。現実の世界でも自己組織化臨界現象といわれる「予想外のことがらが必ず起こる」べき乗則、ベキ分布の形であるといわれる。

サブプライムローンを予言したともいわれる本書の射程は長い。

A Great Book　　（2008-04-02）
This is truly a great book that refines / changes the way you look at the world. The topic is all inclusive ranging from probability and psychology to finance and philosophy. The book offers deep insight especially for those who work in financial industry. As a practitioner, I cannot agree more on the author's point of inadequacy of mainstream finance theories.

言わずもがなでは？　　（2008-01-20）
速読しての感想です。大数の法則から外れたもの、想定外のものが、インパクトをもって大きな変化を起こす、というのはあまりにも当然で４００ページを費やして言わずもがなではないだろうか？　逆の言い方をすれば大数が想定された動きをしている期間には、それによっては何もインパクトはなく世間は水平飛行を続ける、とも言える。So, what?！
この本は、エピソードの羅列として余暇に、冬にはストーブのそばで（または夏ならプールサイドで)パラパラとめくるには良かろう。エピソードにはいくつか興味深いものがある。
ただ、なぜN.Y.Times　Bestsellerになったのか理解できない。

金融工学について深い洞察がみられる哲学書。専門家の言うことを安易に信じてはならない。平均や標準偏差を信仰する凡庸国の国民（Mediocristan）になるよりも、社会科学的現象については極端な事象が大きな影響を持つことを知っている極端国の国民（Extremestan）になることを推奨する。洗練された職人技は中途半端な科学よりはましであるという。

u won't regret it!!　　（2007-12-19）
THE BLACK SWAN is a highly acclaimed piece of work from the writer of the stellar FOOLED BY RANDOMNES. Taleb is a philosopher of randomness, and before becoming a writer he worked on Wall Street as a senior trader. This book explores our inherent yet primerily ignored relationship with Black Swan theory, first concieved by David Hume. I encourage anyone who is remotely intersted in society, philosophy, politics or discussion to pick up this book and they won't regret it!! I'd also recommend reading the mesmerising and highly evocative novel The Fates by Tino Georgiou.
