フロスト警部シリーズ第五弾。
売春婦連続殺人に幼児誘拐。英国には変態が犇いている。
フロストの傍若無人ぶりは今回も健在。やりたい放題の出鱈目捜査や取り調べを繰り返し、あげくの果ては大失態を演ずることになる。しかし、それに輪をかけてひどいのが新配属されたモーガン刑事。やることなすことすべて裏目裏目で、笑うに笑えないドジっぷりを発揮。しかもフロストに負けず劣らずド助平なのだから大変だ。まったく腐女子ならぬ婦女子にはお勧めできない作品である。それでも、この駄目刑事をやめさせた方がいいのではと発言する同僚に、「俺も駄目駄目だ。だが、こうしてまだここで仕事をしている」とかばうフロストはなかなかの男前である。
ちなみにこの本で外国にも「眼鏡萌え」があることを知った。
Frost ファンの期待を裏切らない

日本では翻訳が出るたびに "このミス" 一位を獲得しているフロスト警部シリーズの最新作。英語多読修行中の僕は 500ページという厚さにビビッていましたが、後半はほとんど一気読みでした。
圧倒的なスピード感と、ページを追うごとに解決するどころかこんがらがるばかりの事件は、いつも通り。今回はそれに加えて、人出不足とオマヌケな部下が、大混乱に拍車をかけます。失敗ばかりする部下をもうクビにしたらどうかと言われて、「アイツもクソだが、オレの方がもっとクソだ。そのオレでも、まだ警察で仕事をし続けている」と、部下を見捨てないその態度に、思いがけず感銘を受けてしまいました。Mullet の官僚主義的バカ上司ぶりもいつになく徹底して、好対照。Frost シリーズ・ファンの期待を裏切らない一冊です。
これは面白い！フロスト最新作 （2003-01-11）
売春婦の連続殺人に行方不明の子供。古い人骨も見つかったりしてデントン署はあいかわらずおおわらわ。今回のフロストの相棒をつとめる部下は頼りになるどころ捜査をひっかきまわすし、追い詰めた容疑者はとんでもない行動に出るし・・・フロスト、今まで以上に大ピンチで目が離せません。また下品で思い込みが激しくてだらしないですが、人情味にあふれたフロストの魅力に取り付かれた読者をがっかりさせることなく、随所でほろりとさせられます。
残念なのは作者が寡作なこと。新しいジャック・フロストシリーズは一体いつ出ることになるのか・・・
I'm sorry I've finished reading this book! （2002-07-18）
And I'll have to wait for the next book of this "Jack Frost" series for a long time. Maybe two years? Or more than that? He has been the same since I first read "A touch of Frost.": a dirty, lousy, lazy, but lovable bloke. He is very charming especially when the situation around him gets worse and worse. It's because, I think, he never blame anyone but himself under any pressure.If you haven't recently met a charming man, go for this book and find him very attractive!!!
Tough Frost （2001-05-06）
Frost is tough. American novels have a number of tough characters such as Dirk Pitt and Key Scarpetta. They are mentally and physically tough to the extreme level. Frost is tough in the way he does not make the readers overstressed. In this book, he investigates serial kidnappings, serial murder of prostitutes, serial burglary, and an unidentified skeleton unearthed. Every time the police get a thin lead, it ends up to be another cul-de-sac in time. Still more, one of his suspects committed suicide in a cell. What relieves us is Frost’s attitude toward others. He never blames the misdemeanors of his men not only he is aware of his responsibility but because he sees some lovable aspects in them, even in Morgan.
