This is a useful dictionary for daily life. It is cheaper than an electronic dictionary and only a bit heavier. If you are a more serious student of Japanese, I recommend investing a little more in a dictionary. For example this dictionary gives the source language of Japanese loanwords but the source languages given are often, at least, “open to discussion”.

Provides kanji and translations for just about any word you can think of. I have two, one in my backpack and one at home.
