日本人にはなじみがないが、国際派としては知っておきたいこと　　（2006-10-08）
クリスチャンではありませんが、以前からキリスト教の背景に興味をもっていました。アブラハムはキリスト教、ユダヤ教、そしてイスラム教の３つの宗教の教典に登場する人物。神と人間との関係、信仰、一神教といった３宗教の原点ともいえる存在。しかし、その共通の人物の流れをくむ３つの宗教は、残念ながら互いに仲がよいとは言えません。著者のファイラーは互いの宗教がアブラハムをどのように見ているか？にきりこんでいます。不慣れなので、内容はちょっとわかりにくい部分がありますが、本質はよく見えたような気がします。

Yet another good book from Bruce Feiler, who, though prolific, is never verbose.

Definitely not a somnolent biography penned by an academic. It is comprehensive without drowning the reader to boredom, entertaining without being shallow, the language interesting without being flippant, the examination thoughtful without being fawning or stiff. Truly, the author has the gift of both research and prose.

( Mr Feiler is known to travel to places relevant to his subject, meeting with those relevant to it, though they be on the opposite side of the argument. He is also inclined to discuss his findings with others just as intellectually gifted, further examining them and gaining further perspective, before starting his writing. )

Indeed, a must-read.
